how cor revolutionized modular living from the conseta to the mell lounge
cor is the bomb. here’s why: the brand embodies what it means to harmonize luxury with experimental furniture design. cor makes extraordinarily comfortable furniture that makes you want to skip work and hang out on the sofa all day. every day.
cor—latin for heart—began manufacturing upholstered furniture in 1954. over the last 60 or so years, cor has been at the heart (pun intended) of many glottman projects. in 1964 f.w. möller designed the conseta, one of the world’s first modular furniture systems that still defines how we live today.
conseta quickly became the greatest success in cor’s history. despite conseta’s huge success, cor never stops innovating.
“from the futuristic orbis—think “mork & mindy” (see below)—in 1970 to the arthe in 2000, cor has conscientiously and consistently delivered superior quality furniture that meets the highest standards in design and construction,” said oscar glottman. “there have been clients living with conseta sofas for 50 years, which is a testament to cor’s timeless design.”
the mell lounge is the latest addition to the cor brand. designed by markus jehs and jürgen lau (see below), the minimalist elegance of the mell lounge is defined by its angular exterior and rounded interior. the steel skids are so deviantly formed that the mell lounge appears to be floating—a closer look reveals that it has rounded corners.
“cor is one of the few european manufacturers of fine upholstery furniture with modern but timeless design plus long-lasting comfort and durability,” said glottman.” It’s why we keep cor close to our hearts.”
